The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), established in 1966, is the specialized United Nations Agency helping developing countries pursue sustainable industrial development. It provides tailor-made solutions to today's industrial problems by offering a package of integrated services addressing three key concerns: competitive economy, sound environment, and productive employment (3Es) at the policy / institutional and enterprise level.
With over 37 years of development in the spirit of impartialism, multi-lateralism, and professionalism;
- UNIDO has carried out more than 12000 technical assistant and investment projects in over 170 developing countries and regions.
- UNIDO's new integrated package of services covers 8 Service Modules that were designed to meet specific needs and requests of developing countries and economies in transition from pure industry in the past to other areas such as environment protection, agricultural/food processing, mining, infrastructure, tourism, service industries, etc.
- UNIDO, in the area of investment and technology promotion, has become an important part of the global multilateral investment/technology/project financing system. UNIDO has published a dozen manuals and guidelines in investment and technology transfer such as "Manual on Project Feasibility Study Report", "Guidelines for Project Evaluation", "BOT Manual" etc., which have become accepted standards worldwide. UNIDO developed and uses "COMFAR III Expert" software, generally recognized as the authentic software system on project analysis and evaluation.
- UNIDO has formed a comprehensive multilateral investment and technology promotion system based on its database and networks, which can rapidly identify and circulate accurate, up-dated information concerning the global investment and technology market. Through partnership building, UNIDO has established close relations with over 30,000 enterprises and financial institutions from the industrial countries, and successfully promotes 1000 investment projects per year all over the world. |
