Hunan

Hunan province has abundant natural resources, known as the "land of fish and rice" and "non-ferrous metals area", "non-metallic area" and "tourism" is known to the world. There were more than 2.000 kinds of plants. The forest coverage rate reached 53.1%. There are 40 kinds of rare birds and animals, 160 varieties of natural fish. There also are more than 200 million cubic meters of surface water and 45.5 billion cubic meters of underground water reserves. Over the world there are160 kinds of minerals resources listed and 141 kinds are in Hunan, including antimony, tungsten, and manganese. There are 10 major tourist sites and more than 100 tourist attractions.

Industry has gradually established a complete system of major industrial products has already become larger capacity. In 2004, the province's industrial added value of 178.114 billion yuan, an increase of 15.9%. Big industrial companies¡¯, which is composed as follow equipment manufacturing, iron and steel, non-ferrous metals, cigarettes, food, electronic, new materials, add value is 119.814 billion yuan, an increase of 24.1%, and other industrial added value is 91.197 billion yuan, an increase of 26.5%.

Major industrial products are zinc, pesticides, railway vehicles, cigarette cartons, sulphuric acid, fertilizers, forest products, iron alloy, and the mechanism for paper and paperboard, coal and cement.

Machinery Manufacturing:

Hunan machinery manufacturing output accounting for 40% of the province's total industrial output value, 10% of the GDP. There are two Hunan's construction machinery manufacturing enterprises in the top five of China best companies.

Steel and Iron:

In Hunan there are 100 metallurgical companies for a total of 134,000 workers. Accumulated fixed asset investment for this sector is 11.5 billion yuan. The productions of steel and iron as followed: 3.58 million tons of pig iron, 4.07 million tons of steel, 3.75 million tons of finished steel, 335.000 tons of iron, 1.59 million tons of coke machines, 123.000 tons of manufactures metal. The total of steel output is 32.23 millions tons, the total of pig iron output is 38.25 million tons and the total of finished steel is 29.06 million tons, for a realizing profit of 10.3 billion yuan.

Metallurgy:

The total output of metallurgy in Hunan is 580.500 tons, this count for about 10% of the metallurgy production in China, which place Hunan metallurgy production in the 2nd in China. Lead production is 158,300 tons, accounting for 20% of China production; zinc output 336,700 tons, accounting for 22.7% of zinc production in China; antimony 41,600 tons, accounting for 41.4%, Carbide 2,425 tons, accounting for 40% of bismuth 439 tons, accounting for 47%.

Tobacco and food:

Hunan is famous for cigarettes, liquor and frozen pork, canned foods, tea, feed some products which are exported to Hong Kong, Macao, Southeast Asia, Japan, Russia ,EU and other countries, as well as Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions.

Electronics Industry;

The province's electronic products are very competitive; this production is divided in five sectors.

First, television components, CPT and other electronic devices, CPT has been formed three million production, and accessory products electron gun and deflection coil, colour picture tubes, glass strut, metal parts and packaging, have a value of around 3.5 billion RMB.
