Jiangxi, or Kiang-if, is a province of the south-west of China. It consists of an alluvial plain in north, on banks of Yang-tseu-kiang, Gan and around the large Poyang Lake, a range of hills borders the borders is, western and southern. Rice is the principal culture of the plain, the high areas produce tea. The principal resources are coal, extract of the mines located in the hills of the West and the kaolin, from which the mines date from the Antiquity, which is useful in manufacture of the porcelain. The largest cities are Nanchang (the capital), Pingxiang, Ji' year and Ganzhou.

Herbal Medicine:

The medicine industry is the key industry in our province There are 143 medicine enterprises, among which 49% of the enterprises produce Chinese traditional medicine, 40% produce chemical preparation, 11% produce medical equipment and wrapper The industry of Chinese traditional medicine plays leading role in the medicine industry The output value in 2002 is 7th in China Jiangxi Medicine Group company, Huiren Group and Jiangzhong Group play important role in the medicine industry of Jiangxi province, which achieve one third of the total output value of the medicine industries.

Jiangxi Medicine Group Company comprises of 136 enterprises there are 2804 kinds of medicine approved, including of 43 kinds of material, 1110 kinds of chemical preparation, 1651 kinds of Chinese traditional patent medicine the sales revenue in 2002 was RMB 1.23 million.

Huiren Group produces Huiren Shenbao, Wuji Baifeng pill and Liuweidihuang pill the sales revenue in 2002 was RMB 1.54 million, 15th in the national medicine industry.

Jiangzhong Group's total assets is RMB 1.52 million and has annual capacity of 100 tons antibiotic material, 4.2 billion tablets, 450 million pieces penicillin technical powder injection, 79 million capsules, 1 million bags of pellet There are 2 professional medicine marketing company, the national centre of pharmaceutical technology and the postdoctoral workstation of scientific research The sales revenue in 2002 was RMB 815 million.

Textile Industry:

There are a lot of classifications in Jiangxi's textile industry and the arrangement of the enterprises and industry is quite reasonable too, which is in a middle or higher level of the country. Nanchang, Jiujiang and Fuzhou are the key textile production bases in the province. In 2002, there are 226 enterprises of certain scales in the industry, the gross industrial production value is RMB 6.83 billion, ranking 17 in the country; industrial additional value is RMB 1.6 billion, ranking 18 in the country and the ratio is 4.5% in the province; the export value is RMB 1.07 billion, ranking 18 in the country; the export value of textile garments is USD 400 million, 37.4% of the province and is the No. 1 of the province.

Main products and output: chemical fiber 85,900 tons, yarn 116,000 tons, cloth 204 million meters, print dyed cloth 76 million meters, ramie cloth 21.84 million meters, silk 652 tons, silk products 27.94 million meters, garments 148 million pieces.

Building Material Industry

The main products of building material industry are as follow: cement, glass, fiber glass, construction ceramics, new building material, non-metal mine and products, a bio non-metal material, renovation material and so on. The output value of building material industry achieves 6.25% of the total amount of Jiangxi. There are 199 cement enterprises with the capacity of 23 million tons, 1 float enterprise with the capacity of 5 million boxes. The capacity of high-grade aluminum plastic clad plate is 1.3 million square meters. It is in the middle of China.

The industry system of building material industry is established: cement industry-construction glass industry-construction ceramics industry-fiber glass industry with 23 subsidiary industry and frame of geology exploration, scientific research and design. There are 2 production lines of 4,200 tons new cement with dry process (Jiangxi Yadong Cement Ltd. Co.), 3 production lines of 2,000 tons new cement with dry process design by our county (Jiangxi Wannieqing Cement Ltd. Co.), 2 production lines of float glass with 400 tons (Pingxiang Float Glass Factory) and the production line of 3000 tons construction ceramics (Haofeng Ceramics Group).

Automotive and Component:

As a key industry in Jiangxi Province, automotive industry has formed scales and solid basis and is holds a very important position of the economy. So far the active employment in this industry is over 60,000 and almost 100 manufacturers working on automotives, civilian modified vehicles, motorcycles and components, among which 4 are automakers, 13 are civilian modified vehicle (including bus) producers, 3 are motorcycle makers. Original value of fixed assets is about Rib 6 billion in this industry. Production capacity has formed: 250,000 units of automotives, 10,000 units of civilian modified vehicles (including buses) and 750,000 units of motorcycles. Major products are: Jiangling light trucks, Jiangling Transit light bus, Changhe mini bus, Shangrao bus, Anyuan bus and Hongdu motorcycle. They are all in a good position in the segment of China.

In 2002 total automotive output was 209,945 units. Industrial value added was Rmb 2.985 billion and sales revenue Rmb 11.289 billion, profit-before-tax Rmb 1.338 billion, including profit of Rmb 568 million.

Petrochemical Industry

The petrochemical industry is the key industry of Jiangxi province. The sales revenue of the petrochemical industry is RMB 11.595 billion, one tenth of the total amount. There are 8 large-sized enterprises, such as Jiujiang Petrochemical Factory, Changjiu Biochemistry Share Ltd. Co., Jiujiang Chemical Factory, Nanji Chemical Ltd. Co., Daifeng Tyre Ltd. Co., 21 medium-sized enterprises and 200 small sized enterprises, which is located in Nanchang, Jiujian, Jingdezheng and Yingtan.

Output in 2002: vitriol: 789,500 tons, caustic soda: 188,700 tons, fertilizer: 559,600 tons, the capacity of processing crude oil: 2,968,700 tons, organ silicon monomer: 40,000tons, charcoal black: 66,700 tons, silica pigment: 20,400 tons, AC foaming agent: 23,000 tons, Tyre: 1,188,000 pieces.

Food Industry:

Food industry has a big proportion in Jiangxi's industries. Its production value and tax are in top of industries all the same. In 2002, the gross industrial production value is 12% of the province and the tax is 27% of the province. So food industry is one of the supporting industries in Jiangxi Province. After several years' development, the food processing and making systems adapted to food products resources have generally formed in the province, including common salt, vintage, tobacco, soft drink, organic sugar, milk product, canning, food additive, pastry and instant food etc. Since the "eighth five-year plan", great emphasis have been put on common salt, vintage, drink, milk product and instant food etc. The equipment level, techniques and sanitation conditions have been upgraded. The products' quality, level, scale and the competitiveness have been improved. There also formed a group of key enterprises like Jiangxi Site Alcohol Factory, Linchuan Gong Alcohol Factory, Jiangxi Salt Mine, Nanchang Asian Beer Co., Ltd, Jiangxi Yanjing Beer Co., Ltd, Deyu Group, Gannan Fruit Group, Runtian Group and Jiangxi Wang Apiary Co., Ltd etc. And a lot famous brand food is coming into Jiangxi like Tongyi instant noodle, Wahaha mineral water, Huiyuan fruit drink and Wangwang series. The alcohol and beer industry also rank 14 and 15 in the country.

Porcelain Industry

The porcelain industry is the traditional light industry. There are 180 enterprises which produce porcelain with 80,000 staff, including 2000 sole trader. The output value in 2002 was RMB15.8 billion, the tax was RMB 22million, and exported volume is USD 19 million. Most of enterprises are located in Jingdezheng city, Gao'an city, Licuan County, Pingxian city. Porcelain is classified to 5 lots in term of function: household porcelain, art porcelain, building porcelain, industry porcelain, and hi-tech porcelain.

The porcelain industry system in Jingdezheng is established: raw material-production-market-research and design-education. Jingdezheng is one of the national porcelain regions.

With respect to the industry structure, porcelain industries comprise art porcelain, building porcelain, industry porcelain on the basics of household porcelain. Electronic porcelain and hi-tech porcelain are developed too. With respect to the ownership, there are not only the state-owned enterprises which played leading role before, but also non- public enterprises like sole trader, public-private enterprises with assets of more 10 million yuan which is the new point of economic growth. With respect to the product structure, new material, new type, new technology, new looking is developed continuously.

Metallurgy Industry

Metallurgical industry is the key industry in Jiangxi Province. There are 34 stated owned enterprises which smelt and mangle ferrous metal with 6 enterprises processing ferrous metal and 6 enterprises producing fire-proof material. 100,000 people are employed. There are 8 types of products, including construction steel, iron alloy, automobile spring, and metal products and so on, with more than 110
Catalogue and 2100 kinds of specification. The key enterprises are as follow: Xinyu Iron & Steel Ltd. Co., Nanchang Iron & Steel Ltd. Co., Pingxiang Iron & Steel Ltd. Co., Jiangxi Hongdu Iron & Steel Works which are located in Nanchang, Xinyu, Pingxiang. The output in 2002 is as follow: steel 5,480,000 tons, pig iron 4,530,000 tons, finished products of steel 5,320,000 tons, coke 2,230,000 tons, finished products of iron ore 670,000 tons, automobile spring 19,700 tons, steel wire 100,000 tons. The sales revenue is RMB 12.26 billion and the total amount of the profit and the tax is second following tobacco industry in Jiangxi province.

Non Ferrous Metal Industry

The non-ferrous metal industry is the key industry of Jiangxi province. There are 173 enterprises which focus on non-ferrous metal, such as Jiangxi Cooper Group Company, Jiangxi Rare-earth and Tungsten Group Company.

The capacity of 10 kinds of non-ferrous metal is 277,000 tons, including electrolytic copper: 234,000 tons, electrolytic aluminum: 16,700 tons, copper product: 71,000 tons, tungsten concentrate: 41,500 tons, columbite-tantalite concentrate: 210 tons, rare-earth metal: 3,700 tons. The sales revenue is RMB 11.3 billion.

Electronic Information Industry

The output value of electronic information industry in 2002 was RMB 66.55 billion, an increase of 20.94% comparing with the previous year. The rate of investment type, consume type, electronic element type is 21.06:33.09:45.85. There are 5 catalogues of electronic information products: electronic element, communication equipment, computer, household electronic appliance, and electronic materials. The sales revenue in 2002 was RMB 892 million, an increasing of 102.5% comparing with the previous year.
